The Wolves

The man becomes a wolf.

Wolves have no wives.

Woods are obedient to god.

Night is the fur within which day grows.

The holy spirit has a taste for human blood.

Men have the blood of wild dogs.

Teeth are the first bones to die.

Knives are the tools of descent.

The widow’s friend is a wolf.

The wolf is the woods’ knife.

Dawn remembers the dawn of man.

Snow is the substance of folklore.

Foam is the fossil of breath.

The coyote is the brother of the jackal.

The jackal knows the boundaries below earth.

Velvet is the fur of the naked.

Man was born unarmed, in the arms of a babe.

The wolf can trace his blood back to water.

The first water held the first man and his filth.

Dirt is the enemy of shadows.

In the shadows, the wolf stands, as a brother.

——

wrote a poem in the style of michael mcclure’s “99 Theses” which is, by the way, and extraordinary piece of writing. i didn’t match the original in any way but this was my attempt
